Dear Parents

Today we have been directed by the Department of Education & Skills to send home textbooks and to set work for this exceptional closure until 29th March.

Children's day to day learning in school nowadays involves group tasks, collaborative learning, IT, use of concrete materials etc. This way of learning cannot be replicated at home and we understand that although your children are at home you may be at work or working from home. Nor do you have the resources which we would be using in school. Therefore, learning in this period will feel very different for your child.

In setting work as we have been directed, we will aim to provide tasks that children can work on comfortably. Each class teacher will post work specific for their class on Primary Classes pages on this website.

We are aware that this is a challenging time for you and your children. We expect children to complete tasks to their normal standard of writing and presentation but want to assure you and them that if your child is unsure of the correct answer to a question or how to approach a task set and they are anxious about it they may go on to the next activity set.

  • Below are some additional suggested activities for children:
  • Read for pleasure every day
  • Engage in imaginative play with siblings, toys etc
  • Set yourself a physical challenge eg Run 5 minutes, walk 5 minutes
  • Help with household chores
  • Make, bake or create something
  • Listen to children's news programmes like News 2 Day on RTE or Newsround
  • Watch Cúla 4 (Irish cartoons)
  • See Twinkl for further fun and learning ideas (Free subscription for this month for parents & teachers)

We wish all parents and families well in trying to manage this situation in your homes and places of work and think especially of those who are working directly on the front line of various health services. Do continue to implement the stringent hygiene measures recommended by the HSE and we will continue to trust and pray that the global and national situation will soon show signs of improvement.

Kind regards

Linda Mills & Staff
