We are currently working towards becoming a Health Promoting School. This is a very worthwhile initiative that addresses the health and well being of the whole person. During the school year 2017-2018 we worked on the theme of healthy eating. We are delighted to report that our children are bringing very healthy lunches to school and we hope that families continue to find the information pack that was sent home useful as they seek to develop healthy eating habits at home.
Our theme for this year is MENTAL HEALTH. Each class has completed a unit of work based on positive mental health in keeping with the learning objectives for each age group as stated in the SPHE curriculum.
Our School Motto for this theme is:
'Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference' by Winston Churchill
We also had a number of whole school initiatives. These included a Whole School Assembly based on Gratitude and Thankfulness. A Gratitude Tree is on display in school and children and staff are encouraged to add leaves recording things they are grateful for.
We held an 'Acts of Kindness Week' in school. Children and teachers brainstormed ways to show kindness to others. Acts of kindness were rewarded with kindness tickets.
We also got busy and used our artistic skills to design posters that promote positive mental health. These are on display in school and remind us of the importance of smiling, getting enough sleep and exercise, having friends and being a good friend to others, healthy eating habits and much more.
Coming soon is our next theme 'Physical Exercise'.
