Aistear – The Supermarket. As part of our Health Promoting Schools Project we explored the topic of ‘Healthy Eating’ through our play activities. We opened our very own supermarket in the Role Play area. The children were encouraged to make healthy choices as they did their shopping. We discussed all the healthy options available for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offered alternatives to some less healthy choices.

The Creative Station

The Creative Station used fruit and vegetables to make fun food pictures. The children really enjoyed eating their colourful creations!

We integrated the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ into our Healthy Eating theme. We learned the days of the week and sequenced the foods that the caterpillar ate.

Construction Station

The construction group used the empty boxes to build some very impressive constructions. At tidy up time we sorted the shapes into cubes, cuboids, cylinders and spheres.

Pancake Tuesday

Our Role Play station was transformed into a restaurant for Pancake Tuesday. The children learned lots of new vocabulary on the restaurant theme and became very polite waiting staff and chefs who tended very well to their customers. Chef Jason came to visit and made pancakes with the children. Yum Yum
