Junior Infants enjoyed a December filled with Christmas cheer in the classroom. Our theme for the month was 'Santa's Workshop' so we adopted the role of Santa and his elves during the play sessions.
The children checked the lists and made sure all names were on the nice list. Some phone calls were made from the North Pole to ensure the boys and girls in Mrs Porter's class were behaving themselves! We had great fun completing this unit of work and it allowed the children to build a little excitement for Christmas.
We were careful not to let the Santa's Workshop overshadow the real meaning of Christmas. The children loved hearing the familiar story of 'The birth of Jesus'. We learned songs including a modern version of 'Away in a Manger' and even managed a simple class nativity for the other classes to enjoy.
As Covid-19 restricted us to the classroom this year we resorted to watching some digital Christmas performances. Niall de Burca entertained us with some Christmas storytelling. Our music programme 'Dabbledoo Music' put on a fabulous interactive Christmas show which kept the children glued to the mat while singing along with some classic Christmas songs. We finished the term with Crown Jesus Ministries Christmas puppet show which reminded us of the reason for the season.
It was a Christmas with a difference at the Model but we enjoyed every minute of it and remembered to make the best of the current situation.
