To keep the little folk in your home busy and to facilitate parents as they guide their children through this period of learning at home I have put together a plan of work to support you. We have completed quite a chunk of the senior infant curriculum to date and this allows for lots of opportunities to revise some of the topics and subjects already taught. Please ensure that the correct number and letter formation is used, as bad habits develop very easily and can be difficult to break.

Numeracy: Practice sheets on a number of topics were sent home on Thursday.

We have completed work on numbers 5-8 and are currently working on number 9. Children would benefit from practicing the formation of all numbers up to and including number 9 and completing simple addition activities using a number line or a collection of objects to guide them as they combine numbers.

The language of less and more could also be revisited. Do you have more teddies or dolls? Do you have less coats or hats? Etc.

Gaeilge: Twinkl (an online resource free to parents for this month) has some Gaeilge resources. Cúlra4 has some Irish versions of popular TV programs that your children could watch.

Literacy: It is important that children read regularly. Some story books were sent home with the children. Read these together, talk about the story, question the children about what happens, who are the people in the story, which part did you like etc. You may also have story books at home that your children can read or sign up to www.oxfordowl.co.uk (free access once you create an account)

Writing: A huge part of senior infant work at this stage is practicing letter formation and writing short simple sentences remembering full stops, capital letters and spaces between words. A little handwriting practice book ‘All Write Now’ was sent home. The children may work on at their own pace in this little book.

Copybook: Encourage your child to write some short simple sentences in the copybook or in the spelling workbook

Ready Steady Write: Pages 38 and 39

Phonics work: We have completed all our sounds and are continually revisiting these. There are some practice pages in ‘Over the Moon Skills Book’ Pages 92, 96, 99, 101

Over The Moon Skills Book – Text Book

Page: 91 & 98 Capital letters

Page: 92, 96, 99, 101 Phonics

Page: 94  Sight words

Only complete the above pages in the text books.

Keep up to date with spellings – they are dated in the spelling workbook.

I encourage parents to check all work completed to ensure your child understands.

Remember play and conversation provide lots of informal learning for children. Also use this time to ride your bike, tidy your bedroom, play with siblings, etc, etc.

Finally keep safe and I look forward to seeing you all back in school when it is safe to return.
