2021 - 2022

Active Week was great fun and involved lots of different activities involving Dance - 'Jungle Body with Elaine', Soccer skills and Touch Rugby activities. We were also delighted to be able to have our Sports Day this year.

We had a great day out on our school tour to Castleblayney Outdoor Adventure Centre. Take a look!

We were so happy that we got the opportunity to have our Sports Day this year! It is always a great occasion and there were lots of happy, smiling faces, as we took part in all the different races. Take a look at some of our lovely photos!

Active Week was a real success this year! We enjoyed a full week of fun activities including Dance, Football and Rugby.

This year Senior Infants have really enjoyed 'Outdoor Play'. During outdoor play sessions the children have the opportunity to be creative and use their imaginations, develop their gross and fine motor skills and also to use their problem solving skills to find solutions to problems they encounter as they play.

After learning all about fire safety and developing oral langauge around the theme of 'The Fire Station', Junior Infants were pleasantly surprised by a visit from the fire engine.

The chidlren in Junior Infants love stories so we celebrated World Book Day 2022 by spending time reading our favourite stories.

As part of our Geography curriculum we learned all about Africa and made comparisons with what life is like for children in Africa compared to children in Ireland.

Congratulations to all the boys and girls in 1st Class who took part in the Write a Book project this year! They worked extremely hard on their stories and should be very proud of themselves. Well done!

Back in April 1st Class completed a unit of work on bridges. They learned about the different types of bridges, famous bridges around the world and bridges in Ireland. They completed a report on their chosen bridge, and painted beautiful pictures inspired by Monet's Water Lily art. They worked together in groups to design and build their own bridge as part of their STEM project in Science.

Fourth and Fifth class had a fantastic day away to Airtastic in Craigavon.

We took part in a shared learning event called 'Our Generation' and they treated us like royalty.

We met St. Tierney's Primary School from Rosslea at Airtastic and we all played very well together.

On the bus, we were given bags with snacks inside. They really were such a treat.

At Airtastic, we bounced and bounced and bounced some more!!

After all of the fun, we had lunch. This included pizza, chips and chicken goujons.

It really was a fabulous day all round! Check out the photos below!

Fourth and Fifth class worked exceedingly hard writing their own books. It is fair to say that each book was unique and wonderful! Well done everyone on all your excellent work!

Congratulations to Emily Hall for coming third place in the Monaghan Credit Union Easter Poem Competition!!
We are all delighted for you Emily!

Well done!

We celebrated World Book Day this year with a PJ day.  All the children (and teachers!) got to wear their lovely cosy pyjamas all day and were treated to a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows.  The children also brought in one of their favourite bedtime stories to share with the class. To make a good day even better the sun was shining so we got to spend some time reading our favourite books outside in the sunshine! Have a look!

3rd Class were learning about The Vikings in History recently.  We learned all about Viking longships and how to draw one, we designed our own Viking shields and made Freeze frames in Drama based on a Viking story.

In 2nd Class, we've been working hard on our narrative writing!

This year for World Book Day,  the boys and girls dressed in their cosy pyjamas, robes and slippers and shared their favourite bedtime stories. We all enjoyed a lovely cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows as we listened to everyone describing their favourite book to read at bedtime.

We celebrated Pancake Tuesday in 1st Class with lots of delicious pancakes. We learned about the history of Pancake Tuesday and practised our Procedural writing as we made our yummy pancakes!

December was a busy month in the Junior Infant classroom with the children taking on the very important role of Santa's little helpers. After some necessary elf training the children set to work in Santa's workshop.

The children spent the month of November learning about people who help us in the local community.

Christmas

We had great fun making Christmas decorations using pieces of material and polystyrene balls.

Take a look at some of the different activities 1st Class completed during Maths Week.

Autumn brings a lot of change and this didn't go unnoticed by the Junior Infants!

We enjoyed taking part in lots of Mathematical activities to celebrate Maths Week. We incorporated the environment around us into our learning by looking for 2D and 3D shapes on our shape trail, sorting and classifying items found on our Autumn trail and using them to make patterns.

Indoor and Outdoor play is a very important part of the children's learning in Junior Infants.

Our first priority in Junior Infants is to develop the children's fine motor skills in preparation for writing.

We welcomed 26 fabulous new Junior Infants to the Model School this year. The children arrived to school excited and ready to start on their new adventure in 'big school'! We hope the children enjoy all the new experiences in the classroom and make lots of new friends along the way.

1st Class have been busy making leaf creatures with all their autumn leaves. They were also very excited at the arrival of a prickly, little visitor to our school yard. Max the Hedgehog ( as he was named ) appeared just as we were learning about animals preparing to hibernate for winter, and also as we finished our story 'The Hodgeheg'.

Have a look at our Leaf Creatures!

We took part in a live, interactive session with the children's author Rachel Bright. Rachel began by reading her new story 'Humphrey the Whale Who Wanted More'. This was followed by a guided drawing session of Humphrey the Whale, and another of her famous characters, The Love Monster.  Take a look at our wonderful sketches!

September has been a very busy month for the girls and boys in 1st Class. We have enjoyed getting to know each other again after the summer and have settled nicely into our daily classroom routine.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break. Unfortunately, due to school closures, we have to move to remote learning for the next few weeks. Mrs Mills will forward the weekly plan of work to you on Monday. My contact details will be included in this email. It will take a while to get back into the routine of schoolwork again after the long break, while also adjusting to learning from home, so please do not place unnecessary pressure on yourselves to complete all tasks, and only do what you can. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or questions. Take care and stay safe!

It has been an exciting couple of weeks for the boys and girls in 1st & 2nd Class, as we all moved into our lovely new classroom!

Back in October 1st & 2nd Class focused on Interest Talks as part of our Oral Language lessons. The boys and girls worked hard to prepare and present a short talk on their chosen topic of interest.

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a fun Active Week and made the most of the beautiful weather! You all did wonderful work this week, and I really enjoyed looking at all your activities, so thank you very much for the updates, and well done for continuing to give your best effort to work at home - I know it is not easy but you are doing great!

So this week I will send the plan of work and the worksheets via email. I think this is much more manageable for everyone! Have a lovely weekend!

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all your updates during the week, I have really enjoyed looking at your work and hearing how you are all getting on. Some of you have posted lovely pictures and recordings on SeeSaw and these have been wonderful to see!! Again feel free to manage this plan of work in a way that suits you best.  If you have yet to contact me with your details, please do so, as I am emailing important resources that you will need for next week.

Hello everyone,

Well done on all the wonderful work that was completed this week! I really enjoyed looking at your lovely pictures on SeeSaw! Here is the plan of work for April 27th-1st May. I will email worksheets to parents, so if you have not yet contacted me then please do so in order to receive these.

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and are feeling rejuvenated and ready to continue with your learning at home! Again I have presented this week's work as a daily plan but as previously stated, only do what is manageable for you and your situation at home.

Hello First Class,

Thank you for all  the wonderful pictures and updates, they really do bring a smile to my face, and make me feel very proud of each and every one of you, as you continue to work so well at home.

I think everyone has earned a well deserved break from schoolwork over the Easter holidays! Try to stay active and get lots of fresh air, and above all enjoy some fun, family time together.

Best Wishes to you all over Easter,

Ms Keenan

Here we go again! I hope everyone is keeping well. I have presented this plan of work in a daily format but feel free to do whatever suits you best. Please do not feel all work must be completed as I am aware every family situation is different so do as much as you can. I can be contacted using the email address given via the school email that was sent earlier today.

As you are aware we have been directed to set work for pupils over the next two weeks. In light of this I have included a plan of work for 1st Class. Most of the work involves activities that children are very familiar with and so should be straightforward for them to complete. Please see School News & Updates for other suggested activities.

1st Class took part in a number of fun, yet challenging Maths activities during Maths Week.

Welcome to 1st Class 2019-2020!

We are looking forward to having a great year together!
